Gun.Smoke

Gun.Smoke

Gun.Smoke (CAPCOM) was one of the first games I ever rented from a video store. Immediately there after, I fell in love with the shooter, but it would be years later until I actually owned it - ironically, the same cart that I always rented. I’ve been told many times, that the Nintendo Entertainment System version of Gun.Smoke is simply a watered down port of the arcade edition. Clearly, these people have no idea what they’re talking about. Granted the visual quality is not as impressive, and there’s a bit of Engrish here and there, but the NES music is by far of better quality, and the weapon selection screen adds a refreshing bit of variety. Furthermore, while not equal to the arcade, the sprite graphics were equal to any title released during 1988 for a Nintendo system. Given its age, Gun.Smoke is often emulated, rather than bought these days. Those seeking a legal copy have to search Ebay or a pawn shop, but the price is certainly worth it: they don’t make legends like this anymore.

The mysterious and courageous Lone Gunman wanders the Wild West to right wrongs and deliver justice where lawlessness reigns. His past and motivation are unknown, and many question if Billy Bob is his true name, but one thing always remains certain: He is the fastest draw in the West, and can outgun the largest posses with frightening ease.

The People of Hicksville
Before the arrival of the Wingates, the people of Hicksville enjoyed the fruits of a booming gold rush, and was prosperous gateway into the American frontier. While many are unwilling or unable to aid the Lone Gunman in his journey, there are enough who can help make a difference and stand against their oppressors. Although these individuals lack the skill and experience to fight back directly, they are more than willing to put their own lives on the line to ensure that those who will help them, shall be helped in returned.

Stage Bosses
The deadly inner circle of the Wingate Gang, committers of atrocities so terrible, the Federal Government has posted bounties for their arrests: dead or alive. These so called bosses are the best of the best, and in the case of Devil Hawk and Ninja, leaders of their own independent organization. They alone are a true match for the Lone Gunman, and only their deaths will guarantee the freedom of Hicksville.
